Microgreen Salad with Slow Roasted Chicken Breast

Microgreens with Chicken

I’m a little in love with the microgreens I picked up from Riverwards Produce.  It’s always a treat to have them out to eat because you can’t really find them in the grocery stores.  Even Whole Foods only has a half-hearted, overpriced selection.  So as soon as I saw the container from local NJ farm, Pinelands Produce, I plopped them right in my basket.  Between the microgreens and the ramps, I can’t wait to go back to my favorite new Fishtown, Philadelphia produce market.  Let’s put some chicken on these greens! Grape Tomato, Fresno Chili, and Ramp Salsa

Tomato, Chili, Ramp Salsa

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t recall having eaten ramps before. When Riverwards Produce had some this past weekend at their grand opening, I knew I wasn’t leaving without them. I also knew I wanted to do a simple pan sauté in olive oil to test them out. That’s the best way to taste what a new food has to offer.  You don’t want to go all in and incorporate them in to some fancy recipe not knowing what they’re going to do.  Also, let’s see how they guys taste raw. Kale and Green Bean Salad

Kale and Green Bean Salad

I’m still working my way in to this kale thing.  We’ve been hearing about this super food for the past few years.  As it turn out, kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet.  Which, of course, is why it’s one of the worst tasting.  Let’s see if we can make a raw kale salad good enough to eat on a regular weeknight. Guacamole for Avocado Lovers

You’ve got guacamole for dips, guac for toppings, guac for kids, guac for adults. Spicy, chunky, garlicy, with or without cilantro, etc. You can make it how mom made it, how the food truck makes it, or how you had it on that one trip to SoCal. Different people like it different ways and I’d say you should make it however you love it. I’ll also say you should make it this way because it’s amazing! Continue Reading…

What’s your favorite Bloody Mary recipe?

Bloody Marry

The Bloody Mary must have over a thousand different recipes.  I used to hate them.  I thought they tasted like cocktail sauce.  Then I found out I was just drinking really crappy Bloody Mary’s – probably with cocktail sauce in them.  I wanted to get some input on how you love yours. Do you like them extra spicy?  Extra horseradish and freshly ground black pepper?  Do you have a secret ingredient like pickle juice or anchovy paste?  How about vegetables?  Do you like your rim veggied or no?

Send me a message or leave a comment below and I’ll pick one of your Bloody Mary’s to make this weekend! Ohhhh. The Weekend!

Jane’s Addiction – Live in NYC

As the spring teases us with the whispers of summer, I’d like to share one of my favorite bands from my teenage summers.  I put this on the other day when it was eighty plus degree in Philly.  It’s pure motivation to cook, clean, dance, make love, eat, play volleyball, you name it.
